what it means to be, become, and belong

do you remember the photo albums our grandparents would crack open with that plasticky sound as pages were turned, old photos sitting slightly crooked underneath the clear covering that held them in place against the adhesive?

they would tell you about your mother and her mother from this catalog of your history. (I have a particular fondness for the 70s pregnant photos on the beach with a cigarette and gin and tonic.)

photographs are living documents. they transform over time into maps, keys, compasses, wandering sticks; they are how we experience yesteryear layered beautifully with all that came after.

you can’t stop time or manufacture perfection. as your photographer i’m offering you an invitation to embrace the impermanence of the present and continue the catalog of your history.

A great love

Laura has a sentimental, but serious face as she describes a conversation about Sam around this time that she had with a friend, “They asked me if we were together, and I said no. They asked why and I was just like, I don’t know, I don’t know. She said, What if you miss out on a great love because it wasn’t what you thought it would look like?”

editorial of the ordinary

I photograph lovers, babies, birth, pregnancy, and families. I have a narrative portraiture style that I often combine with essays — creating a kind of editorial of the ordinary. My sweet spot is in/around-home with slow paced sessions. The experience is just as important as the final product. We co-create a safe space that allows you to be fully present.

an invitation to be seen;

what it means to remember ourselves and each other.

to feel the woven connection that is braided together over many hours.

all the things that lives are made up of — both common and profound.

tea, meals, the sound of

the wind chimes on the front porch

lightning bugs drifting in the twilight

giggles of kids; whispers of lovers.
